Abstract

An extreme sport isn't a casual pursuit. It requires its athletes to train -  to stay current, honing skills and learning obsessively - in order to stay in one piece[1]. Due to the fact that the pace of life increases, stressful situations and the accumulation of negative effects grow among the youth we can see the tendency of increasing the interest in the extreme sports. But not everyone can understand the beauty and danger of this sport, because it is so dangerous that it can lead to death. The aim of the work is to consider extreme sports from two points of view: advantages and disadvantages according to the conducted survey. The tasks of the work are as follows: to reveal the features of rock climbing, to determine the degree of influence of this sport on a person and his environment as a whole.

Keywords: extreme sport, advantages, disadvantages, pros and cons, motivation, to discover, to climb, strength.

Introduction

’Extreme sports’ are those that have a high level of perceived risk, not necessarily a high level of actual risk [2]. It is any physical discipline that forces you to acknowledge your place on the risk continuum. Today, an active sport, especially extreme sports are increasingly developing and attracting the attention of many people. Like any other sport, extreme sports bring people both positive and negative sides. If as many people think extreme sports brings only harm so why  some people connect their lives with this sport? Therefore, before to begin to engage in any type of sport, it is necessary to learn all pros and cons.

Discussion

Understanding the motivations behind those who partake in extreme sports can be difficult for some. If the popular conception holds that the incentive behind extreme sports participation is entirely to do with risking one’s life, then this confusion will continue to exist. However, an in-depth examination of the phenomenology of the extreme sport experience yields a much more complex picture [1]. Extreme sports, especially climbing as those activities where a mismanaged mistake or accident would most likely result in death. Extreme sports are not necessarily synonymous with risk and participation may not be about risk-taking. Participants report deep inner transformations that influence world views and meaningfulness, feelings of coming home and authentic integration as well as a freedom beyond the everyday. Phenomenologically, these experiences have been interpreted as transcendent of time, other, space and body. Extreme sport participation therefore points to a more potent, life-enhancing endeavour worthy of further investigation [5].

The most important thing in extreme sports is proper and professional training. Because today you can see a lot of videos from social networks, where boys make cool jumps from roof to roof. On the one hand such videos can attract the attention of teenagers and be interested in this sport, but on the other hand in our country there are few special sections for parkour. Therefore, teenagers will want to do the same tricks without any physical training. When a person’s body is not prepared for such exertion, it can be bad for health. Therefore, from such a case, everyone has a question to play this sport or not. Since the types of extreme sports are different, everyone want to fully discover the pros and cons of   climbing.

To verify this sport, a survey was conducted among 80 students. The main goal is to find the pros and cons of climbing. For this, students were asked a few questions:

  1. Do you think that climbing is an extreme sport?
  2. How do you think what will be more in this type of sport: pros or cons?
  3. Would your parents support you if you decided to play and engage in these sports?
  4. Would you like to develop this type of sport in Kazakhstan?
  5. Do you consider if it is expensive to engage in any extreme sport?
  6. Would you support your child if he decided to do rock climbing?
  7. Did you try to practice in any extreme sport?

Results

The answers to these questions were different. 80 students took part in the survey. Most of students answered optimistically to these questions. 28 out of 80 students answered positively to the sixth question. The survey shows that on the part of the parents, extreme sports cause them to worry about the health of the child. And in other cases, students are only happy to develop this sport in Kazakhstan. Moreover, they consider that climbing is a very interesting and effective sport for health. In general, 53 students out of 80 consider that there are more pluses than minuses and the rest - vice versa. According to the survey, we identify advantages and disadvantages of it:

Advantages:

  1. The challenge of climbing the highest mountain has brought many brave people to try and accomplish the dangerous goal. Of course, the rock climbing develops the physical strength of a person and gives a new hobby. In addition, rock climbing perfectly develops intelligence, ability to plan, combinatorics, as well as visual memory.
  2. New peak and new types. Those lucky enough to climb up the top of Everest and survive the trip. They can bravely say that they have been at the top of the world.
  3. Develop tourism in our country. Climbers want to conquer more and more mountains respectively; they will go and do all the opportunities for conquering new and high top of mountains.
  4. Give confidence in yourself and your own strengths. Many young people are interested in this hobby because of the opposite sex.

Disadvantages:

  1. Alex Honnold said “One slip, one false move, one missed to you hold, and you're dead” [4]. Some climbers who pay the hefty free to climb the highest mountain in the world do it for personal attention and to brag about the risks and dangers they went through.
  2. Many professionals, when they want to achieve new heights, take great risks because it’s a common thing to risk for them. It is natural that they don’t fully understand what they are going to do.
  3. As demand grows, people will charge more and more to balance things out. This will cause people to not want to climb the mountain because it is way too expensive.
  4. If you dedicate your life to this sport, your future will be jeopardized permanently.
  5. Threat to national parks

Approximately like this you can describe the pros and cons of climbing. The mental and physical demands of offwidth climbing are grueling, and part of that is due to the intimidation and difficulty of protecting them. You not only have to thrutch and grovel your body up a wide crack, but also have to haul and plug heavy gear that’s awkward to carry, challenging to place, and a pain in the butt to climb past.[4]

Conclusion

We can see that most people agree on the development of an extreme sport, namely climbing and in their opinion more pros (66%) than cons (34%). Despite the fact that there were those who were against this sport, those who were twice as much. Since people who believed that more than one cons could only give one argument, this is health. Also I want to say that for me extreme sports, especially climbing, are pleasant. It shows that if a person wants to engage in extreme sports, he will do it. No matter how it is dangerous. So everyone should listen to themselves and choose to engage in this sport or not.
